NC Carpet Binding & Equipment wants to inspire the next generation of upholstery pros by offering kids a chance to win a long arm sewing machine for their daddies (or mommies, grandparents, etc).
That’s right — this contest is for the kiddos!
“NC is a family business and most upholstery shops are family businesses. Let’s get the kids involved and put them front and center. They can win a relative a long arm machine and take home a pretty cool prize for themselves.” said Mal Maher, CEO of NC Carpet Binding & Equipment.
How to Enter
Simply take a video of your elementary school age kid (12 and under) operating a sewing machine. Make it as funny or creative as possible to stand out. If the child is a talented sewer, let them show off their skills.
Next, share it on Facebook or Instagram. You’ll need to tag @nc_carpet_binding and @thehogring. Also, use the hashtags: #upholstery #sewingmachine #nccarpetbinding #carpetbinding and #thehogring. If you can, share a few things about your child and your business in the post. Feel free to enter as many videos as you like.
The Prizes
NC will choose a finalist each month, who will receive a small prize, like swag, shears, upholstery supplies and more.
Each finalist has a chance to win the grand prize announced at the end of the year: an NC6L sewing machine. This 30” long arm walking-foot machine comes with a custom servo workstation, large bobbin, extended reverse lever and more. It’s valued at $5,700. If a carpet binding professional wins, they’ll choose from a PBT or MIL2021 NC portable carpet binding machine.
Of course, there’s a kids prize too — a $200 Visa gift card, some NC swag and a feature article right here on The Hog Ring!
The Judges
NC will comb through the entries and select the finalists each month, as well as the grand prize winner. The chairman of the board of the selection committee will be none other than Tucker Lile, son of Shane and Jessica Lile of Sewn Tight Custom Interiors in Kentucky.
Last year, Tucker’s video sewing on his parents’ NC twin-needle machine went viral on Instagram with over 2.3 million views. “Tucker loves anything cars and working with his parents. It’s only fitting to have an industry kid have a hand in picking the winning video. He’s the inspiration behind this contest,” said Maher.
“Let your kids have some fun and be creative. Maybe even bring in the family pets. More than anything, enjoy the heck out of it and win a long arm or carpet binder,” said Maher.
