Continental Unveils Customizable Emotional Dashboard at CES 2025

February 19, 2025 By Naseem Muaddi

The Hog Ring - Continental Unveils Customizable Emotional Dashboard at CES 2025

If your car could match your mood, would you let it? That’s exactly what Continental is banking on with its latest innovation — the Emotional Cockpit, which made its debut at CES 2025 in Las Vegas last month.

Gone are the days of static dashboards and one-size-fits-all car interiors. Continental’s Emotional Cockpit introduces a new level of personalization with a 1.30-meter-wide E Ink Prism display stretching across the entire dashboard. Think of it like an ever-changing digital canvas that lets drivers customize their car’s interior with unique patterns, colors, and even useful driving information like battery range.

Partnering with E Ink — best known for its e-reader technology — Continental is bringing energy-efficient ePaper displays into the automotive world. Unlike traditional screens, these displays only consume power when updating images, making them a smart, power-friendly choice for electric vehicles.

“Personalization and emotionality are decisive success factors for vehicles of the future,” said Pavel Prouza, Head of UX at Continental. That means tailoring the in-car experience to reflect individual tastes — something that Gen Z craves in every aspect of their lives. Whether it’s sleek grayscale aesthetics or an expressive pattern that changes with the driver’s mood, the Emotional Cockpit is all about making the car an extension of its owner’s personality.

But Continental didn’t stop at the dashboard. The company also showcased how E Ink displays can enhance the exterior of vehicles.

At CES, they revealed a smart B-pillar display that lets drivers check their battery charge or personalize messages before even stepping inside. Imagine walking up to your EV and seeing an illuminated “Good morning!” or your current range displayed — no app required.

Since E Ink technology reflects light like real paper instead of relying on backlighting, it cuts down on power consumption while still offering crisp visuals. It’s also lightweight and durable — two must-haves for modern vehicles.

Continental’s Emotional Cockpit represents a future where cars don’t just drive us from point A to B — they become an interactive, emotional experience. And with more color options on the horizon, the days of dull, uniform dashboards may soon be behind us.
