The Hog Ring - Trimmer Joseph Czartosieski Dies at 75

Trimmer Joseph Czartosieski of North Carolina has died at age 75.

Joseph was born on April 21, 1948 in Southampton, New York. He attended Southold High School and Suffolk County Community College, where he majored in business. After working in his father’s store, the Southold Market, and becoming a salesman at Volinski Olds, he joined the auto upholstery industry.

Joe eventually opened his own shop, JS Custom Upholstery in Southold. Friends and family nicknamed him “Joey Seat Cover” and “Covers.” He later moved the business to Peconic and called it Peconic Auto Upholstery.

“A highlight in Joe’s life was having the honor of being commissioned to design and create a special chair for Pope John Paul II in 1987 when a religious Ecumenical Conference was taking place in South Carolina,” his obituary says. “Over 75,000 people attended and Joe was one of 25 to be received by the Pope and given a special rosary, with which he prayed daily. The pope’s chair was on display at St. Patrick’s Church in Southold, and Joe gained exposure and notoriety through radio and newspaper interviews.”

He eventually closed his business and retired to North Carolina.

In his free time, Joseph enjoyed cooking, singing, biking and classic cars. Twice a year, without fail, he and a good friend traveled to Tennessee for the Pigeon Forge Classic Car show.

Sadly, Joseph died on February 24, 2025. He is survived by siblings, Alexandra Graham, Althea Corner, Alicia Thompson, Peter Czartosieski, Charles Czartosieski, John Czartosieski and Steven Czartosieski; as well as by nine nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and -nephews.

May he Rest in Peace.
