Legendary Auto Interiors is Hiring Sewing Machine Operators

The Hog Ring - Legendary Auto Interiors is Hiring Sewing Machine Operators

Legendary Auto Interiors in Newark, New York, is expanding its facility — and looking to grow its team of sewing machine operators.

The company, which has been around since 1985, manufactures upholstery and soft trim for 1960s and 1970s muscle cars. Everything from seat covers to full interior kits is cut and sewn in-house at their facility along the old Erie Canal. According to a report in the Times of Wayne County, the company is adding 5,600 square feet to its current 27,000-square-foot workspace. The addition will house their sewing department and include a new training center.

Legendary assembles its kits using both modern and traditional methods. Production spreads are cut by hand or machine, then sewn with single- and multi-needle machines. Final assembly involves combining components like inserts, listing, cordwelt, and subassemblies into finished kits. Some parts are even made to order, one at a time.

To help meet growing demand, the company is hiring commercial sewing machine operators. They offer on-the-job training, so previous experience isn’t strictly required — but attention to detail and a steady hand definitely help.

“This is an exciting time for us as well as the local community,” Heather Beckenbach told the Times, “and we are thrilled to see the opportunity this will bring to all of our team, customers and the community.”

Anyone interested in applying can stop by Legendary Auto Interiors’ facility at 121 West Shore Blvd. in Newark.
