Our Interview with Rods N’ Wheels in PHB

April 1, 2014 By Naseem Muaddi

Auto Upholstery - The Hog Ring - Da Rod Shop

Check out The Hog Ring‘s exclusive interview with Billy Sr. and Billy Jr., stars of Discovery Channel‘s new hit TV show “Rods N’ Wheels” and team members of Da Rod Shop, in the April 2014 issue of Performance and Hotrod Business magazine. We got a full six-page spread!

In the interview, the father and son team tell us all about their hot rod shop, high regard for the craft of auto upholstery and how they find inspiration of their unique builds. Their answers are altogether funny and insightful — a must read for fans of the show and anyone interested in custom hot rods.

During the interview, Billy Sr. shared his thoughts on our craft:

To me, upholstery is one of those things that’s a specialty like vascular surgery. I mean, I think you should be only an upholsterer when you do upholstery. Nothing else.

These guys that try to cross over and are all-over designers and they do mechanical work and body, no way. It’s such a specialty. Are you kidding me? It would take away from the skill it takes to do an interior to say you should be more than an upholsterer.

Very cool! That was a good interview, Naseem. The questions you asked help the general reader understand our industry a little better. And The Discovery Channel asked you guys to preview their new program? Wow! You guys are becoming real VIPs in the auto after-market. I’m very proud of you guys!

Thanks Jim. I wanted to keep the interview as upholstery related as possible. I was pleasantly surprised by their answers. They seem to have a deep respect for our trade. We were excited to get the opportunity to do the interview, hopefully there will be many more to come.
