Larson Custom Upholstery: ‘It’s about challenging yourself’

April 17, 2019 By Nadeem Muaddi

The Hog Ring - Larson Custom Upholstery

Larson Custom Upholstery is quickly attracting a legion of fans for their gorgeous motorcycle upholstery — especially their leather-trimmed helmets.

Matthew Larson, who owns and operates the shop in Washington, is a former butcher at Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market. He later transitioned to auto upholstery before deciding to focus on bikes.

Larson was recently profiled by filmmakers Thai M. Tran and Carlos Cruz, who did a wonderful job of capturing the essence of his craft.

In the video profile, Larson tells us what drives his passion.

“We’re all addicted to something, right? It’s okay to go really deep into something and completely just geek out,” Larson says.

“I think upholstery challenged me just enough and there was things I can do to change it and make it my own,” he adds. “I feel more like I’m following a path in the direction I want to go. It’s not like I’m in pursuit of a certain amount of money or, you know, things like that. It’s about challenging yourself and making sure you have a good time doing it.”
